Fake Star

Part children’s book, part exhibition catalog, “Fake Star” follows a plaster copy of a meteorite displayed in the Finnish pavilion of the Paris World Exposition in 1900. Exploring the backdrop of the exhibition, the book touches on the emerging nation-state of Finland and the colonialist logic of the World Fairs. It is a story, aimed at children and adults alike, that narrates the encounter between King Oscar II of Sweden and the Russian representative at the Finnish pavilion, Prince Tenisheff.
