The Sugar and the Hunger

RabRab Press presents the first English language translation of Robert Linhart’s “The Sugar and the Hunger,” originally published in 1980. Widely acclaimed for his engaged social analyses of proletarian and peasant struggles around the world, Linhart’s inquiry into the sugar regions of Northeastern Brazil reworks the stories of impoverished workers into a vivid cinematic montage. Alongside the translation of Linhart’s work, the book also includes “The Third World, Investigations, Social Analysis,” an unpublished 1980 interview with Linhart by Jean Copan, which provides additional context for Linhart’s Brazil project.
