The Decembrists

Larisa Reisner’s “The Decemberist” offers a dramatic and vividly imagined account of Russia’s first revolution against the Tsarist autocracy in 1825. Reisner’s retelling paints a powerful portrait of the young poets, officers and aristocrats involved in the political movement. Reisner was immensely popular in the Soviet press for her reporting on Afghanistan, Weimar Germany, and the mines and factories of Soviet Ukraine and the Urals. “The Decemberist” includes the first English translation of Reisner’s text, it is translated and introduced by Cathy Porter.
