Wanting Something Completely Different

This is the second edition of Jairus Banaji’s book “Wanting Something Completely Different,” in a new cover design. Discussing a range of political figures, themes, directors and writers, the book lays out a vision of a modern, cosmopolitan left that can think creatively about the world and its problems. The book covers figures such as Frantz Fanon, the Palestinian novelist Ghassan Kanafani, theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer and the murdered Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya. It also covers a wide range of events and themes, from the death of Walter Benjamin, the murder of Pier Paolo Pasolini, the corrupt nature of India’s leading corporate groups, and the outstanding contributions of Italian and U.S. Black feminists to feminist theory.
